Muttiah Muralitharan
Muttiah Muralitharan is one of Sri Lanka’s most successful bowlers, holding the record for most number of wickets in both test and one-day cricket. He was ranked the greatest Test match bowler ever by Wisden Cricketer’s Almanack in 2002 and went on to retire from test cricket in 2010 after picking up his 800th wicket. His unorthodox bowling action left generations of batsmen feeling baffled and afraid, making him one of the most exceptional spin bowlers to ever play the game of cricket.
In the early 2000s, Murali established the Foundation of Goodness – a charity organization that supports local communities through a range of projects across areas including education and health care. He also joined the United Nations World Food Program in 2004 as an ambassador to fight hunger among school children. Murali is incredibly passionate about helping those in need and was thrilled to come on board as an ambassador for Trail 2016.
