Trail is about coming together as One Sri Lanka and raising funds for improving cancer treatment in our nation. We also want to create a safe space for people to share their stories, and to celebrate the strength and courage they’ve shown in their personal struggle with cancer. We believe that cancer is not the story, those who unrelentingly fight it, are.
Kamilka Perera is a strong advocate for Trail. She spearheads Spread A Little Love, an initiative which supports the National Cancer Institute at Maharagama. Since she heard about Trail, Kamilka has offered her time and insight to help our cause. As a cancer survivor herself, she knows the value of having access to quality cancer treatment, a strong support network and a positive mindset. Here she recalls the day she found out that she tested positive for cancer –
“I remember reading Paulo Coelho, although can’t recall the exact line, it said you come to peace with memories places hold…It was at this very table six years back, I got my reports that read positive for cancer. I was with my Uni friends on our way to Kandy for another friends wedding, and had stopped to get b’fast. What I remember most, is not knowing how to react. I continued the trip and didn’t mention it to anyone. I chose the same table today, in a way to close the circle In peace. Years later I’m cancer free, and I’m blessed to be so. I kept lots of good vibes on this table as I left, hoping no body who ever sits there receives bad news.”
