Trail was founded by colleagues and friends Nathan Sivagananthan and Sarinda Unamboowe. It is a charity walk that carries a message of unity and understanding along the length of Sri Lanka while raising funds in aid of cancer treatment.
Trail 2011 was a 27 day walk covering 670 km of the island. USD 2.6 million was raised and used to build and facilitate the Tellippalai Trail Cancer Hospital in Northern Jaffna. Opened in January 2014, it is the first dedicated cancer hospital in the area.
Trail 2016 aims to raise USD 5 million to build a new cancer treatment facility at the highly respected Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in the Southern town of Galle.
