Overview
Trail 2016 begun its 670 Km journey on 6th Oct 2016 at Northern Point Pedro. We walked across Sri Lanka over 28 days and finished on 2nd Nov 2016 at Southern Dondra Head. Our goal for Trail 2016 is to raise USD 5 million to establish a new cancer treatment facility in Galle.
We had 4 different types of walker categories along the route:
- Trailblazers who walked the entire 670 Km distance
- Pathfinders who walked 1 or more zones. 1 zone was 3 consecutive days
- Day Trekkers who walked 1 or more days
- Virtual walkers who joined us via web and raised funds online
A typical day on the Trail began at 5:30 am sharp and finished by 10:00 am. We walked an average of 25 Km a day. There was breakfast available in the morning as well as water points and feeding points along the route.
We were joined by over 80,000 walkers throughout our 28-day journey. With their support, along with over 500,000 donors and 1 million other supporters, we were able to raise over LKR 50 million along the route.
There were 32 brave Trailblazers who walked the entire 670 Km distance from Point Pedro to Dondra Head over 28 consecutive days. To these individuals – thank you for your determination, resilience and strength.
We’d like to thank each and every single person who contributed towards Trail 2016. We could not have done this without the support from all of the walkers, donors, sponsors, and volunteers. The walk against cancer may be over but the fight still continues. Click the Big Red Donate button below to contribute!
