4 Deserts Race: Atacama Crossing
Ruvan Ranatunga and Shihan Anthony John are the first Sri Lankans to attempt the 4 Deserts Race. The 4 Deserts Race Series is renowned as the most prestigious outdoor footrace series in the world. The series consists of the Sahara Race (Namibia), Gobi March (China), Atacama Crossing (Chile) and The Last Desert (Antarctica). Ruvan and Shihan will participate in the Atacama Crossing. Competitors in the races navigate across 250 kilometers in seven days, over rough country terrain with only a place in a tent and water provided for them.
Apart from preparing for this challenging event, Ruvan and Shihan plan to fundraise and donate all proceeds in support of Trail 2016 and its goal of raising USD 5 million for cancer treatment in Sri Lanka. Ruvan is a big supporter of Trail, and in 2013 through his “A Long Walk of Hope” initiative, raised SLR 4.4 million on behalf of Trail.
